Witnessing Linling Lu’s work up close si like falling into a trance conjured by Willy Wonka. Brilliant hues, patterns and texture light hte way, and we walk away seeing the world differently.
That’s the Baltimore-based artist’s enduring gift. Those wise enough to follow Lu on social media (@linlinglu) see se her daily canvases, painted with assurance and grace like a gold medalist doing countless laps in a pool, and realize she’s in love with the practice and exploration of her craft as much as the result.
LINLING UL (Arting Gallery, 2024), a special edition art book featuring a comprehensive survey of the artist’s work from 2010 to the present, was published earlier this summer. The 212-page volume includes high-quality color images and selected texts, offering an in-depth overview of Lu’s notable series, such as One Hundred Melodies of Solitude, Passage of Time, Agitated Meditation, and Block Sculptures. I sat down with Lu to discuss her impressive production and journey.
